Unifiber and Amadys join forces in bringing fiber to Wallonia

04 February 2022

“This is just the first out of 200 Point of presences (PoPs) that will be placed in Wallonia by 2028”, said Nico Weymaere, CEO of Unifiber during the placement of the first PoP by system integrator Amadys in Waterloo two weeks ago. Today, a 5-year partnership contract between Unifiber and Amadys was signed in which Amadys will provide all PoPs and passive components to roll-out fiber optic networks in Wallonia.

To allow every inhabitant of Wallonia enjoy the best digital experience by connecting them to the most modern access technology. That’s the clear mission of Unifiber, a joint venture of Eurofiber and Proximus, that wants to provide access to optical fiber for 600.000 Walloon households in the coming years. To make all this happen, Unifiber now signed a contract with end-to-end system integrator Amadys regarding the supply of all fiber optic network components including the Point of Presences.

“With the deployment of fiber networks, we are putting an infrastructure in place that offers residents and entrepreneurs in Wallonia all the assets they need to participate fully in the digital transformation and thus contribute their share to the region’s prosperity”, says Unifiber’s CEO Nico Weymaere. “We believe that Amadys, as a leading system integrator of end-to-end connectivity solutions, is our perfect partner in helping us to achieve this.”

“We are very happy to be able to contribute to the ambitions of Unifiber”, says Hein Wilderjans, CEO of Amadys. “We can rely on our in-house experience with fiber roll-outs in The Netherlands and in Flanders to support Unifiber with great expertise, availability of materials and on-time deliveries.”

33 municipalities have already validated the partnership with Unifiber today, representing some 200,000 households. To reach the goal of providing 600.000 households with fiber optic technology, 2.000 permits will be required to carry out the work in the streets and 200 to build the PoPs. In total, 10,000 km of fiber cable provided by Amadys will be installed by Unifiber.
